If you're a huge 90's Nick junkie, then you definitely recognize this tacky little orange sofa right here...
The Big Orange Couch, the representation of Nickelodeon's Saturday Night lineup, SNICK.
For years, the couch has gone through quite a history, so I'll try to sum it all up in one thread as best as I can.
SNICK YEARS (1992 - 1999)
Through 1992 until 1999, the Big Orange Couch was featured in majority of SNICK's promos and bumpers. During the bumpers, the couch would be scene in many places, ranging from Nick-related areas such as in front of the Midnight Society's campfire, Ren and Stimpy's house, the Roundhouse set, etc.
In later years though, the scenarios the couch would be put in started to range from very... strange, and questionable areas, such as on a barn, in front of a cliff, in the jungle, and many other notable examples...
Don't get me wrong, these bumpers were awesome, but the scenarios were just really... random. Then again, so was some of the humor on Nick, so I guess that's excusable.
Now, that was fairly easy to sum up. There wasn't much to the couch, other than it was orange, and sometimes left outside because that's totally not raising the chances of the damn thing getting stolen.
Jokes aside, the couch was pretty iconic, and Nickelodeon tried to milk it as much as possible, and we just ate it up. No regrets, either.
One thing I have to mention though, was that in 1999, the couch itself was retired from the promos. So, what did they do with the iconic couch? Did they throw it away along with their spare Stick Stickly's?
Fuck no! They gave the damn thing away!
In 1999, they had quite a big giveaway for the couch to celebrate Nickelodeon's 20th birthday. Just for shits and giggles, they even stuffed the God damn thing with, get this, $25,000 and 6000 cookies. The winner would supposedly be delivered to their house by a Nick celebrity. There is actually a Tumblr post on bigorangecouch.tumblr.com, in which a fan explains their story on how they almost won the couch.

IMPOSTER YEARS (2000-2006)
There's not much info here to put down, other than occasionally, some commercials would include an "orange couch". Not THE BIG orange couch, just some "orange couch".
As you can see, these are not actual replicas of The Big Orange Couch from SNICK back in the 90's.
"OF COURSE THEY'RE NOT, THEY GAVE IT AWAY DIDN'T THEY?!?!??!?!"
Well, technically, yes. They did. However, what you may not realize is that there are many different variants of the Big Orange Couch...
THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE COUCH TODAY
In 2015, someone by the Tumblr name "thedomt" made a post that finally shed some light on where the original Big Orange Couch was...
When someone asked how OP got the couch, they replied with:

This does make sense, as when you look through the original SNICK bumpers and various other images of the couch, you can actually pinpoint the different couches they used...
(NOTE: I am not including the replica of the Orange Couch they used in the numerous launch promos for The 90's Are All That, as that particular replica was NOT used in the original SNICK promos.)
EDIT: I also forgot to mention that Nickelodeon created two replicas of the couch. One accurate one with the detailed "fancy" wooden frame for use of The Splat/90's Are All That advertising, and another that Nick kept over the years with the basic two legged frame and slightly different black fabric outlining. The basic two legged frame replica was used in certain public events, such as the mtvU Campus Invasion Tour 2011. It was also used in 2002 for certain SNICK bumpers after 2002. Photos of this replica can be seen here:
The detailed wooden frame replica can be seen in many promotional uses for The 90's Are All That, such as the Snickiversary event back in 2013.
So there you have it, a quick summary of The Big Orange Couch's history. Tomorrow, I may do a post on Stick Stickly, one of Nickelodeon's other mascots as well as the host of "Nick in the Afternoon", so stay tuned!

"I don’t remember the time that they gave it away stuffed with $20,000 and 6000 cookies and that is the only time I see it being referenced as being given away online. I do have a story about how they gave the couch (or possibly it was a replica that hadn’t been on the show but was just being given away by them, I cant remember I was young). It was during slime time live one day, and they were going to give away the couch stuffed with $1000. Myself and my three siblings were all watching the show, and the number to call in popped up so we called it. We got the normal busy tone you become accustomed to when calling in to win phone contests. So we tried again, the phone rung and we got through. They were going to place our name on the cake, spin it along with two other names and one of the three names would win that glorious coach and a thousand bucks. Sadly, while arguing which name to put on the coach we dropped the phone, the batteries came out and we lost our chance. We tried calling back but just got the busy tone and they put some other person’s name on the cake. So we will never know if we would have won "

I know where the Big Orange Couch is. Actually, I know where the Big Orange Couch-es are. There are three all together.
I own one of them."

"Well mostly because Nick tried to throw them away some 6 or 7 years ago (before I started working here). My boss saved them and kept them in storage and a 2 or 3 years ago when I started working here I just kinda asked for one. *shrugs* that’s it!"
